A Bit About Our Village!

Situated between Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead on the old A41, now bypassed by the new dual carriageway.

The Grand Union canal runs through the village offering picturesque walks along the tow path in Summer, Winter, Spring or Autumn.

Running parallel to the canal is the small river Bulbourne and the London Euston to Milton Keynes railway.

On the 30th September 1945 there was a rail disaster; an overnight train traveling from Scotland to London Euston  was derailed killing 43 people. This was Britain's seventh worst rail disaster.

Due to the springs in the area watercress flourish, it once was a thriving local industry employing many people.

Also passing through the village is a channel known as The Bourne gutter. It only flows occasionally so folklore says when it does flow it warns of war and 'dear bread'.

Parts of the The Three Horseshoes pub Winkwell Lane date back to the 15th Century.

There are many beautiful walks in and around the village.
